Originally from Savannah, Georgia, EV is a graduate of the George Washington University with a degree in Women’s Studies. In response to several problematic, misogynistic sex columns published in the GW Hatchet, EV co-founded The Second Sex Column with Cameron Bell and Paul Seltzer. EV currently lives in DC with their partner and dreams of having a dog and full-time employment.
If I had a superpower it would be… I already am a superhero– we are all already superheroes when we face the reality of oppression and stand up to it in our daily lives. The ability to love and have compassion for others is a superpower; it is what makes us human. I could ask for nothing more. However, my inner nerd would have to go with telekinesis.
Some feminists I’d like to meet are... Audre Lorde, Amy Poehler, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Dean Spade, Angela Davis, Judith Butler, Hillary Clinton, Nina Powers.
My favorite famous feminist is… It depends on my mood, but probably Audre Lorde. I always find myself coming back to her work and wisdom.
I love feminism because… Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.
My non-feminist guilty pleasure is… I really enjoy watching crappy television shows like The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
When I’m not writing for The Second Sex Column, I can be found… laughing.
Feminist Fun Fact: I can wiggle my ears.
EV’s Wisdom… Take care of yourself and put yourself first. There’s value in self-care.
